Universal Pictures has paid seven figures for Goner, a spec script that Joss Whedon wrote and will direct. It will be produced by Mary Parent and Scott Stuber.
Whedon’s description: "It's the story of a young woman's journey that involves a great deal of horror and some heroics. It's certainly darker than Serenity, and there are a lot of left turns along the way. It is something I had in mind for a while, and it just poured out of me when I finished my film." But writing and directing the upcoming Wonder Woman movie will probably come first. He’s also still hoping to revisit the Buffyverse, probably in with Spike. He told Scifi.com: "Let's say it's a good jumping-off point," Spike actor James Marsters has commented recently that’s probably getting too old to play the supposedly eternally youthful vampire, and Whedon has responded: "Well, we're working. We're trying. I know. ... James is in very good shape. Keep working out, James." Joss has also spoken to Amy Acker about bringing back Illyria. She told Eonline: "He has mentioned it a couple of times. I mean, the last time, I talked to him a couple weeks ago and said that I had heard that Tim Minear was gonna write and direct the Spike movie, the Spike-Illyria movie, so he said that they want to do that still. I think he's just overwhelmed a bit right now with the press for Serenity and everything!" On the other hand, Spike told SFX magazine: "I would like him [Spike] to be the lead. I heard from some people that they were thinking of doing a Spike/Illyria piece and I need to talk to them and say, 'I am really interested in doing the character as a lead, but I have done him as a sidekick.' If they write an Illyria piece with Spike tagged on, I probably won't do it. I love Amy Acker and would love to shoot with her, but there is noting for me to prove by doing it with her.” On the acting front, Joss will have a cameo in the sixth episode of the second season of Veronica Mars, to be aired in the US in November. He will be playing a car-rental agent named Douglas in a scene with star Kristen Bell. |
