It's back! The long rumoured and often pitched Star Trek Academy storyline is finally happening, with Star Trek XI having a launch date of 2008. The movie will focus on the early days of Kirk and Spock, including their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and their first mission in space.

This project is separate from the previously rumoured script developed by Eric Jendresen and overseen by Rick Berman. Berman is not involved in this project.

Star Trek XI
is to be produced and directed by Lost and Alias producer J.J. Abrahams. He will be writing the script with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Mission Impossible III), and also brining on board his Lost producing partners Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk.
