Ferren and the Angel by Richard HarlandAuthor: Richard Harland

This is a young adult fantasy novel that is nothing short of extraordinary. Set in the distant future, during a war between Heaven and Earth, it tells the story of friendship between two enemies - Miriael, the Fourteenth Angel of Observance, and Ferren, a Residual from one of the primitive, isolated human tribes. In this epic story, Miriael and Ferren attempt to bring an end to the war and the reign of the evil Humen on Earth.
Part of what makes this novel so enjoyable is the fascinating universe Harland has created. As the book progresses we learn more about the past, in which Heaven was invaded and in which the Doctors rose to power on Earth, eventually creating the Humen. The structure of society on future Earth, with Residual tribes living in fear of Humen soldiers, who in turn are controlled with drugs by the Doctors, is a stark contrast to ordered nature of Heaven with its hierarchy of Angles.

A book well worth reading. Rush out and buy it now.
