Doctor Who The Legend: Four Decades of Time Travel Print

At exactly 400 pages, this large soft-cover book is beautifully presented, with 5 colour printing (standard colours plus silver), nice design (although a bit cluttered) and chock-full of pictures.

It covers the whole gamut of Doctor Who, from its genesis right through to the 2003 webcast story, and a brief mention of the upcoming new television series. There's also coverage of the novel spin-offs, audio tales and short-lived TV shows such as K9 and Company and the Comedy Relief Special.

Every television story is covered, with a brief synopsis, behind the scenes information, plus the new information that is revealed about the Doctor, his companions and his universe. This "new information" section makes the most interesting reading, particularly the first couple of doctors, as we are reminded of how little the viewer knew about the Doctor when the show was first aired. And it also shows us how the the show evolved over time, with refinements made to the Doctor's background and the Doctor Who universe.

Covering each episode in depth would take much more than a single book, even of this size, so unfortunately there is little information on any of the cast apart from the doctors and some of the companions.
